Daylight Saving Time in Australia
Correct as at October 2008, Daylight Saving Time in Australia is observed in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory and has been synchronised across these states commencing at 2am (AEST) on the first Sunday in October and ending at 2am AEST (3am DST) on the first Sunday in April.
Western Australia began a three year trial of daylight saving starting on 3 December 2006 with daylight saving in 2008 beginning at 2am (AWST) on the last Sunday in October and ending at 2am AWST (3am summer time) on the last Sunday in March 2009
Queensland and the Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving.
UTC offsets for DST (where observed) are:
- AEST becomes Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT). Clocks are advanced to UTC +11 (put forward one hour).
- ACST becomes Australian Central Daylight Time (ACDT). Clocks are advanced to UTC +10 ½ (put forward one hour).
- AWST becomes Australian Western Daylight Time (AWDT). Clocks are advanced to UTC +9 (put forward one hour).
